Is your child Native American Indian or Alaskan Native?

Did you know that if your child is of Native American Indian or Alaskan Native descent, you might not have to pay HFP’s monthly premium or co-payments?
How to proof your child ancestry?
In order to proof to child ancestry and don’t pay a monthly premium or co=payments with Healthy Families you need to  submit one of the following papers:
A copy of your child’s Native American Indian or Alaska Native enrollment document from a federally recognized tribe; or
A Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) from the Bureau of Indian Affairs; or
A letter of Indian heritage from a California Indian Health Service clinic.

How Long Do I Have To Send In Proof?

If you claim that your child is of Native American Indian or Alaska Native ancestry on your application, you must send proof within two months from the date your child is enrolled.
You will not have to pay premiums during those two months, but co-payments will be required until the above documents are received and approved. After we receive and review your forms, we will contact you to let you know that you no longer need to make payments. We are unable to refund co-payments made during the months when we did not have the proof of your child’s background.
If you cannot provide proof of your child’s background, you will need to start making the monthly premium payments to the HFP and continue to make co-payments at the doctor’s office.
